He decided to confess a secret he had held to himself. He recalled,
"I call my mom and I just start crying… and I tell her, and she was like, 'Shut up. Although the movie never ended up happening, the audition turned out to be a significant life-altering moment for the actor. This is Lukas Gage, after all—an actor who knows the value of embracing every part of who you are.If there was ever any doubt about where he stands, he certainly dispelled it with that statement.

Not a Gold-Star Gay, But Definitely Gay
“I’m pretty fucking gay,” he said, referencing his Kardashians TV wedding to the celebrity hairstylist.
For Gage, there’s a disconnect when it comes to forming romantic relationships with women.
This self-awareness extends beyond his sexual experiences.
But just when you thought Lukas was giving us the full spectrum of gayness, he adds with a laugh, “I’m not gold-star.”
Still Hooking Up with Women (But No Emotional Attachment)
In the same breath, though, Gage acknowledges that his sexuality is fluid. He’s not interested in fitting into a box or conforming to anyone’s expectations of what it means to be queer.
That’s probably why I was such a horrible boyfriend to all the girlfriends I had until I was, like, 20.”
The candid comments come after a highly publicised marriage — and breakup — with celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton, which ended in divorce just months after their 2023 wedding.
A Short-Lived Marriage & Public Apology
Gage and Appleton tied the knot in April 2023, but by November, Appleton had filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The couple reached a settlement in mid-2024.
Following the split, Gage publicly apologised to singer Shania Twain, who had performed at their Las Vegas wedding ceremony.
“I’m sorry for wasting her time,” he said with a mix of humour and regret.
Reflecting in His Memoir
In his memoir I Wrote This For Attention, Gage delves deeper into his evolving understanding of his sexuality.
“There was a lot of confusion because there was love for the girls I dated and the females I was with,” he wrote.
“But there was always something inside that I couldn’t quite articulate or figure out.”
Gage’s honesty about his sexual identity has struck a chord with fans, offering a refreshingly nuanced view in an industry that often demands clear-cut labels.
Lukas Gage, the breakout star of The White Lotus, is living proof that identity is never a one-size-fits-all label.
Well, I’m going to kiss you now.’ And then we dated for three years.”
The relationship ended, but he said they remain on good terms today. He said,
“I immediately start bawling, and I talk about how I’m sleeping with my neighbor and hiding it from everybody.”
Lukas Gage added that he was 19 or 20 at the time, and the neighbour was like a 'bro' figure/friend he used to hang out with.
This marked the beginning of his opening up to others.

Understanding his sexuality and looking back at his past
Lukas Gage said he did not realise he was gay until late in his teens. “That was probably why I was such a horrible boyfriend,” he said with humor but also clarity.
Marrying Chris Appleton on television, of course. During his appearance on the In Your Dreams With Owen Thiele podcast, the actor explained that he does not see himself as fully gay or fully straight. He jokingly added that the “gayest thing” he’s done? It’s evident that Lukas has been on a journey of self-discovery, and that journey is far from over.
Gage is More Than Just an Actor
Now, Gage is pouring himself into his memoir, I Wrote This for Attention, where he reflects on his tumultuous upbringing, his experiences with sexual abuse, and the complexities of navigating a broken family.
This back-and-forth made the process of accepting himself slower and more confusing.
In 2024, Lukas Gage communicated to the hosts that he was in a period of self-reflection. He even spoke about one girlfriend who once told him she thought he might be gay.
